Lizanne Wilkinson, MS, LPC

In my work with children (ages 2-14) my priority is to create a safe environment where the child feels accepted, unconditionally.

Many children with whom I work present with attention, behavioral, or emotional regulation issues and/or sensory challenges that may be affecting peer or family relationships or success in home or at school.  I rely on parent/guardian involvement at the beginning of most sessions to promote constructive communication within the family. I feel strongly that supporting parents/guardians through psychoeducation and “talk time” hastens a child’s healing. After “talk time” I invite the child to play–often in pretend–as a way to confront and address what may be blocking their healing.

I am a licensed professional counselor and certified school counselor, as well as a registered DIRFloortime® provider with the Interdisciplinary Council on Development and Learning (ICDL) who has provided therapeutic services to children in office, school, and home settings.  Professional and lived experience have given me the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of IEPs and how school districts can support diverse and differently abled students. My training in Mindfulness Based Play-Family Therapy, including Sandtray Therapy, guides my work.  I also use behavioral interventions and stress reduction techniques, as well as skills from Cognitive Behavior Therapy and other therapeutic modalities.
